It is with deep sadness that we mark the passing of Danbury’s great philanthropist and businessman, Dr. Peter Buck.
Dr. Buck cared deeply for the Danbury community and leaves behind a legacy that will be woven into its fabric for generations to come. His giving touched community members from all walks of life—but especially older adults, children, the immigrant community, people suffering from illness, and people who found themselves in dire financial straits. He cared about the hardworking struggling households that United Way calls ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed). He understood their daily struggles and valued the important role that they play in our broader community.
Dr. Buck was a vivid example of how sharing one’s blessings can transform lives. At United Way of Western Connecticut, we are particularly grateful for his support of Danbury’s aging population, through the Age Well Community Council and its initiatives, his support for our food security work, and for his yearly donations to The Giving Fund. Especially at this time of year, we remember how his donations allowed countless individuals and families to enjoy happier holidays―knowing that they could put food on the table, pay rent for another month or two, or pay the utility bill. His generosity helped to change the trajectory of countless lives for the better.
Dr. Buck’s philanthropic spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved him. His generosity will unquestionably be felt for years to come.
